Windows Vista "per application sounds" : is it what I want?

What I would want, in this podcasting era, is a system that lets me define once for all a volume level, such that all content rendered by applications output to that volume level. Doing that, it does not matter anymore if the microphone used to record audio and video was too far or too close or whatever, because the system on my machine automatically adjusts the output. Yes, another missed opportunity. Guess I will have to continue to rely on third-parties.

ref : Windows Vista sounds

When Visual Studio 2005 shipped, it totally ignored the fact that the tech world had moved to Ajax. Windows Vista is shipping, ignoring that podcast has taken off.
