xlsgen 3.5 introduces a rewritten PDF engine.

Customers have been using our PDF engine a lot since we introduced it back in xlsgen 2.5. But over time, a number of requests were made : the text in spreadsheets could not be selected unlike other PDF files out there ; could not scale to bigger zoom ; the PDF files produced by xlsgen were big in size ; the generation process could be slow. All of this is now solved with a completely rewritten PDF engine. The old one is still accessible with one line of code, should you want to stick with it. Of course, it is highly recommended to use the new PDF engine given the many benefits. Any piece of text is now selectable and can be brought to and from your favorite PDF reader. We have tested our PDF engine against Adobe Reader (several versions) as well as a number of free alternatives. Text is now scalable arbitrarily. The PDF files created by xlsgen are now much smaller in size, so they are also much quicker to navigate in a PDF reader. The PDF files created by xlsgen are also faster to generate and take less memory for doing so.

The PDF files still contain what anyone should expect, i.e. rich-formatted text in cells, background grid, borders, applied conditional formattings, pictures, charts, text boxes and vector shapes, header and footer, table of contents.

Tant le dernier système d'exploitation d'Apple (Max OSX mavericks) que celui de Microsoft (Windows 8.1) posent des problèmes aux utilisateurs lambdas.

La gratuité ne doit pas être la contrepartie de la perte de fonctionnalité de l'ordinateur voire de la perte des données pure et simple.

Ainsi Mavericks n'est pas entièrement compatible avec les disques durs externes, notamment, et peut faire perdre les fichiers qui se trouvent dessus ! Excusez du peu!

Quant à Microsoft, c'est mieux encore. Microsoft a un problème avec Windows, c'est la gestion du DPI (dot per inch) depuis toujours, c'est-à-dire de la résolution des images. Prenez le système d'exploitation et changez d'écran et vous aurez déjà des problèmes de compatibilité à l'affichage ou avec des applications. Mais avec Windows 8 et Windows 8.1, Microsoft fait fort car ils ont changé deux fois de suite et de manière cassante le comportement du système d'exploitation vis-à-vis du DPI. Pire, à partir de Windows 8, qui s'appuie sur DirectX pour afficher le contenu des fenêtres, le changement du DPI cause une rupture majeure avec des applications écrites avant Windows 8. Ainsi, il est possible que vous perdiez purement et simplement l'accès à vos applications existantes. Il n'y a pas de parade connue.

Vive le progrès!

Je ne suis, pour ma part, pas impatient de quitter Windows XP, qui quoi qu'en dise, fonctionnement parfaitement bien et est prévisible. En gros, ça marche.
